The Award Winning
"Highlander" producer Bill Panzer passes away.
I've not always (particularly with the arrival of "Endgame") agreed with his ideas on where to take the "Highlander" franschise, but I've always been grateful to him for his part in bringing it to both the big and small screen in the first place.
Thanks, Bill.
Introduction:
This page is devoted to Connor MacLeod, the title character of the original "Highlander" film, and the inspiration for the "Highlander" television series.
Included on these pages in an illustrated timeline of Connor's life, along with some dates relevant to those close to Connor (Ramirez and Duncan for example). I created the page because, well, Connor is the coolest (the second coolest is, of course, Ceirdwyn) Immortal out there (and make no mistake, he's still out there).But...if, for some odd reason, I decided to accept the totality of "Highlander: Endgame" on this site, I would have to put the scene with Rachel's death in December of 1996 (the first time in the series timeline that Duncan is in Paris during Christmas as best I remember). Naturally, that puts the "10 years later" stuff in 2006. Some folks will naturally assume that my sole reason for ignoring most of "Endgame" is Connor's death. If that makes it easier for them to sleep nights, that's fine, but for my ownself, I thought the movie was bad idea piled upon lousy execution long before the moment of Connor's death. That's why I don't bother including his death here.

Notes on timeline:
Sources for about 95 percent of the timeline include all four films, various versions of the scripts for said films, the card game, the novels, the Watchers Chronicles CDs, discussions on the Connor mailing list (see link below), Jimmi Smith-Schneider's 'Highlander: The Films - A Historical Perspective' and the series; the other 4 percent is logical conjecture on my part (and there's one I just plain made up). If you're a history buff and have thoughts about corrections that need to be made, please let me know. In the cases where there's a conflict, I tried to make it fit as best I could or just tossed the different versions in so you can pick your favorite.
"The Watchers"
In the second season premiere episode of the series, entitled "The Watchers," Joe Dawson shows Duncan MacLeod a computer screen with information on the Kurgan, confirming that in the series universe, events are happening in the current day, and the Kurgan is long dead. As interesting as the Watcher info was, it had some mistakes as related to the movie. For one, several Immortal's names from the movies were spelled wrong. Either this proves my theory that the Watchers have yet to live up their own PR or confirms that the series is in an "alternate universe" from the movie(s).
I'm using the information from the movie on my page. Heck with the Watchers.Discrepancies between Joe's computer screen and movie details:
- Stosch Basalok (named Osta Vazilek in the script, first name not mentioned on screen)
- Juan Sanchez Villa Lopez Ramierz (as opposed to the proper Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez)
- Aman Fasil (shown as 'Iman' in the novelization and script)
- Sundra Kastagar (spelled out in the movie credits as 'Sunda Kastagir')
- The screen also lists the Kurgan's Immortality being 'activated' on March 20th, 1452 and his defeat of Ramirez as taking place in 1601.
- As I was recently reminded by Wolfpac 61, while Joe's screen listed the Kurgan as 'whereabouts unknown' from 1756 to 1985, the Watcher CD lists James Horton as the Kurgan's Watcher from 1981 to 1985. Another indication of the Watcher's incompetence or part of a plot by Horton..?
- the second edition of the Watcher CD lists an Immortal named 'Sunda Castiger' - yet another mispelling
'Highlander: The Final Dimension' (HL3) poster
The US poster for HL3 (Connor in mid-Quickening in front of a sundial/clock sort-of thing) has dates on it, most of which can be tied to events in Connor's life. Listed along with my thoughts as to what they represent, they are:
- 1511 - a mistaken reference to Connor's birth
- 1536 - Connor's '1st death' on the end of the Kurgan's blade
- 1605 - possibly meant to be the year of Nakano's death?
- 1789 - Connor and Sarah's relationship - the French Revolution
- 1863 - Connor in the War Between the States (there's no such thing as a 'civil' war!)
- 1943 - Connor finds Rachel
- 1995 - mistaken reference to the year of Connor and Kane's final battle
- 2024 - it's nearly obscured by a bolt of the Quickening, a fairly obvious dig at the 'imaginary' HL2
'Highlander: Endgame' website timeline
The 'Endgame' website has a timeline of it's own, mostly focusing on Duncan MacLeod, but a few of the dates concern Connor. They also vary from what is already known about our favorite Highlanders, revealing yet another alternate Highlander universe. Fitting since the Connor in that film sure doesn't come across as the one from any of the films or 'The Gathering.' Some of the differences are noted below:
- 1618 - Duncan is killed by Kanwulf (according to the Watcher CD - and elsewhere on the 'Endgame' site - Duncan was killed in 1622)
- 1993 - Connor meets Duncan in Seacouver, WA while on the trail of Slan Quince (August of 1992 according to the Watcher CD)
- 1986 - Connor defeats the Kurgan (as Brenda said quite clearly in the film, it happened in 1985)
'Highlander: Endgame' DVD and the timeline on the DVD
The 'Endgame' DVD also has a timeline with a few added details, some of which I've added to the page if it didn't contradict what we already knew.
- Lists Rachel's birth year as 1936. According the script for the first film she was 52 in 1985, giving her a most-likely birth year of 1933
- The end credits reveal the ages of Rachel in the home movies - 8, 12, and 19.
- Keeping my original birth year for Rachel, she hasn't met Connor by the time she was 8 so I had to move this.
- She's 19 in the graduation scene - okay except that the sign says it's the "Class of '47!" which would put her being born in 1928, so I moved it to the 'correct' year (and made sure my vidcap didn't show the year).
I welcome any and all comments, there's a link to my email address below. This site could best be described as "always under construction" as I get around to fleshing out the timeline from the original 'shorthand' version I've been keeping since 1990 or so and get different pictures up to replace the standard promo shots so common elsewhere on the web. Possibly one day I'll upload my complete timeline of the Highlander series universe...or maybe not.

12 December 1999: added a new pic w/info and all the conflicting stories of the Rosemarie - pick your pleasure. And I can't believe I left out Brenda's birth year
17 October 1999: added "Connor MacLeod's Tour of New York City" map - see where events in the film happened according to the script
19 September 1999: added more detail to 1985, including the actual date (just readable on the newspaper) that the Kurgan defeats Kastagir
11 September 1999: added more discrepancies between the Watchers and film below, and new info for 1983. Also made a few changes to the Ceirdwyn page.
25 June 1999: Added a new date, 1786.
11 April 1999: Corrected a rather embarrassing typo concerning Ramirez and I've finally broken my strict adherence to some of the stuff in the novel, even though it doesn't quite fit. Mainly about events directly after Connor's banishment and Heather's death. (for example, according to the book, he heads to the Lowlands after leaving the Clan and that's where he meets Heather, but when Heather's dying they remember the Highlands - eh?)
Thanks: My thanks first and foremost to Greg Widen, for creating such a neat world in which to play. And to Christopher Lambert, for bringing Connor MacLeod to life. Also, many thanks to Davis/Panzer themselves, for making the film in the first place and keeping the idea alive in the series (tho' they sure seem to be determined to kill it in the films). And of course, thanks to everyone else involved in both the films and the series. Last but not least, thanks to all the other fans, who've given D/P a reason to keep the immortal flame of "Highlander" alive!
No thanks at all to the losers who have stolen stuff from this page. Joe and Ivan, this means YOU!
Special thanks to Clayton Moore (September 14, 1914 - December 28, 1999) for being a hero.
